Shorinji Kempo is an efficient method of self defence since the techniques are not based on strength but rather on understanding of balance, physiology and body movements. You can practice Shorinji Kempo regardless of whether you are old or young, woman or man.
Two systems in one, “hard” (gōhō 剛法) and “soft” (jūhō 柔法), are combined in Shorinji Kempo to a complete self defence system that can adapt to any situation what so ever. In “hard” techniques you learn defences against punches, kicks and blocks. And “soft” techniques include techniques such as escapes, throws and pins when an attacker grabs you or initiate a throw.
